When to use it

Use it for any piece of feedback, positive or corrective, where you want the other person to know exactly what to repeat or change.

How to apply it
  1. Name the situation precisely, including when and where it happened.
  2. Describe the observable behaviour, what was said or done, without adjectives about character.
  3. Explain the impact it had on you, the team or the outcome.
  4. Pause and ask for their view of what happened.
  5. Agree what they will keep doing or do differently next time.
Tip: If you cannot name a concrete behaviour, you are not ready to give the feedback yet.
