When to use it

Use it when you are looking for a new role, new ideas or a route into an unfamiliar field.

How to apply it
  1. List people you know only slightly, such as former colleagues or event contacts.
  2. Mark those who work in areas or organisations you know little about.
  3. Get in touch with a few of them with a short, specific question.
  4. Share what you are exploring so they can spot relevant openings.
  5. Follow up with thanks and a note on anything that came of it.
Tip: Do not neglect weak ties because they feel less comfortable; that difference is where their value lies.
