When to use it

Use it to connect individual goals to team or organisational goals and make expectations explicit.

How to apply it
  1. Share the team's or organisation's objectives for the period.
  2. Ask each person to propose objectives that contribute to them.
  3. Agree the objectives and measures jointly in a conversation.
  4. Check progress at regular, agreed intervals.
  5. Review results at the end of the period and use them to set the next objectives.
Tip: MBO works poorly when objectives are simply handed down; the joint agreement is the point.
