Stakeholder Engagement Assessment Matrix
Source: Project Management Institute; A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK Guide)
A matrix comparing each stakeholder's current engagement level with the level the project needs, using categories from unaware to leading.
When to use it
Use it to plan targeted engagement and track whether key people are moving to where you need them.
How to apply it
- List key stakeholders.
- Rate each one's current engagement: unaware, resistant, neutral, supportive or leading.
- Mark the engagement level you need from each one.
- Plan specific actions to close each gap.
- Reassess at regular intervals and update the matrix.
Tip: Not everyone needs to be leading; aim for the level the project actually requires.
