When to use it

Use it when you need many people to change a specific behaviour and persuasion alone has not worked.

How to apply it
  1. Define the few vital behaviours that would produce the result you want.
  2. Address personal motivation by linking the behaviour to what people already value.
  3. Address personal ability by giving practice and skills, not just information.
  4. Use social motivation and ability by enlisting respected peers and helping people support each other.
  5. Use structural motivation and ability by aligning rewards, tools and the environment.
  6. Track the vital behaviours and adjust the sources that are not working.
Tip: Combining several sources tends to work better than relying on one, such as training alone.
