When to use it

Use it when trying to change an existing habit you understand poorly.

How to apply it
  1. Identify the routine you want to change.
  2. Experiment with different rewards to find what craving the routine satisfies.
  3. Isolate the cue by noting location, time, emotional state, people and preceding action.
  4. Choose a new routine that delivers the same reward.
  5. Plan to use the new routine whenever the cue appears.
Tip: Log the cue details for a few days before deciding on a replacement routine.
