When to use it

Use it when comparing offers or when the employer cannot move further on base pay.

How to apply it
  1. List every element: base salary, bonus, employer pension contribution and any salary sacrifice options.
  2. Add holiday entitlement, private medical cover, life assurance and share schemes.
  3. Include flexible or hybrid working, notice period, training budget and job title.
  4. Put an annual monetary value on each item where possible.
  5. Rank the items by importance to you before the conversation.
  6. Negotiate on lower-cost items for the employer if base salary is fixed.
Tip: Check employer pension contribution rates carefully; differences between offers can be worth thousands a year.
